Tango Newsletter – July 2015

Dear Tango Players, Coaches, Umpires, Families and Friends,

This year has moved very quickly and here we are in July , about half way through the regular season for both AMND and SADNA Competitions. Strangely however the Nine News Netball Cup for our Premier League teams has now finished for season 2015 .

The club management, coaches and umpires continue to work tirelessly for the benefit of the players and the greater Tango Netball Club Community.

Please see the following update on the season to this point-

Nine News Netball Cup –State Premier Netball Competition

This year the club showed improvement on 2014 and despite our best efforts we finished 5th in the Premier League and 6th in the Reserves competition . The Premier League missed out on a finals position by 2 games in the first year under Head Coach Scott Waddington .

A comprehensive review of the season is now being undertaken by Scott and the other Coaches at this level together with the management of the Club .

The composition of the playing squad , the structure of the coaching panel , an in depth look at the pre-season program and the recruitment of players are all areas this review will encompass.

This season was an improvement on previous seasons however next year we expect to be playing finals in both grades.

AMND and SADNA Competitions

As mentioned earlier we are at the half way mark of the season , and overall we have 18 teams out of a possible 41 in the top 4 of their particular age groups / divisions . 10 of these teams are sitting 1st or 2nd .
In addition to this many other teams are still in contention for a finals spot and with some improvement in the second half of the season they may also qualify for a finals position .

The Players, Coaches and their families have contributed to a strong start to the season and we look forward to some Club success as the season progresses.

Michelle den Dekker OAM – Thunderbirds Coach

Michelle joined our club in 2013 as the Premier League Head Coach and made an impact immediately by helping to formulate the vital development programs associated with successful Premier League Netball Clubs , whilst also coaching the Premier League

This included programs such as Net Set Go , Buddy Days ,Tango Summer Academy, and the Elite Training Group .

In addition to this Michelle identified the existing talent within the club and encouraged players to nominate and trial for State Under 17, 19 and 21 teams with great success over the past 2 years.

Michelle and her family hold their time at Tango very dear to their hearts , and as a club her contribution is highly valued and appreciated .

We thank Michelle for her contribution to the Tango Netball Club over the past 3 years and we congratulate her on her appointment as the Head Coach of the Adelaide Thunderbirds .

Tango Summer Academy and High Performance Development Coach – Leigh Waddington

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Leigh Waddington as the Tango Summer Academy and High Performance Coach for 2015 and 2016 .
Leigh has replaced Michelle den Dekker who has been appointed as the Thunderbirds Head Coach for the next 3 seasons. “ One Thunderbird replaces another at Tango”, and we are very pleased that Leigh has decided in her own words to “give back” to the netball community in recognition for all the support she has received in her career as a Thunderbird and Premier League player for over 10 years.

Her role will be to lead a talented group of players and coaches selected in the Tango Summer Academy , and to coach and mentor a select group of talented Juniors and/or Inters during the winter season preparing them for the transition from Junior netball to the Senior grades over the next couple of years.

Summer Season Registration and Team Selections

Registrations for summer season will open on 15th July and can be made via the MyNetball Online site.

This summer the club will be participating in both the City Nights and SADNA competitions . City Nights Competition is played at Netball SA Stadium and the SADNA competition is played at Golden Grove.

The Tango Summer Academy will total 6 teams and they will play exclusively at the City Nights Competition in the Sub Junior, Junior , Intermediate and Senior Age Groups . The players selected in these teams will be invited only and nomination for these teams will not be possible . The players will be selected by the Match Committee from player history and coaches reports , and invited to participate .
The players selected in the Summer Academy will receive written invitations via email by Wednesday 15th July. Players may be added to this group during the summer season based on their performances and commitment in the SADNA competition .

SADNA Competition – All players ( excluding those selected in the Summer Academy) are invited to register for the summer season competition at SADNA .

Formal trials for existing Tango players will not be held for this summer season and players will be selected in their respective teams based on playing history and reports form their existing coaches.
NEW players will be required to attend trials at a date to be advised .

Hopefully having the Academy Teams play in the City Nights Competition will reduce the likelihood on having 2 Tango teams in each division of each age group at SADNA. Last Summer Season this was a problem for the club and is one reason the move to City Nights was proposed.

Tango Pink Training Shirts

As you were aware there was a problem with the training shirts distributed early in the season.

Thankyou for your patience with this process and hopefully the players are pleased with the end result .

Please ensure the shirts that were distributed in the last 2 weeks are the shirts the players wear on game day . These shirts have the correct “pink” colour and correctly match the playing uniforms.

The other shirts may be worn to training .

We wish all the players , coaches and umpires success for the 2nd half of the season .

It takes 2 to Tango
